Relocation Survey vs Verification Survey: Which Do You Need?

The short answer

A relocation survey puts the corners of your lot back on the ground. A verification survey checks whether the title and the lot on the ground really match. Different goals, different outputs.

Relocation survey

Choose this when you already trust the title and just need to find or re-mark the corners. A geodetic engineer follows the technical description, measures the lot, and sets boundary markers (mohon). It is the usual choice before fencing, building, or settling a boundary disagreement.

Verification survey

Choose this when you are not sure the title is right for the lot, or you are buying and want protection. The surveyor plots the technical description, compares it with neighboring lots and what is physically occupied, and reports any overlap, shortage, or error. It is often done before a purchase or loan.

How to decide

  • Buying a lot and want to be sure: verification first.
  • Already own the lot and need to build or fence: relocation.
  • Neighbor says you are encroaching: relocation, and verification if the title itself is in question.
  • Not sure: send us your title and we will tell you which one fits.
